A new report from the Office of Management and Budget puts into stark context just how big EPA’s regulatory overreach has become.EPA regulations from 2004 to 2014 have come with an annual price tag of $37.6 billion to $45.4 billion dollars, over three times higher than the next highest agency, the Department of Transportation. This figure looms even larger when you consider that it doesn’t include the Clean Power Plan, Waters of the US, EPA’s new Methane rules, the 2015 ozone standard, and others. As ran in The Hill's Congress Blog on Aug. 28, 2015. http://bit.ly/1LABIDY.With the announcement earlier this month of the Clean Power Plan, the War on Coal is officially over. The casualties in Appalachia, Northwest Colorado and other mining areas across the country number in the thousands. Consumers’ electricity rates will necessarily skyrocket across the country, but President Obama can claim mission accomplished.Where does the conquering army now turn? After all, those ideological foot soldiers for greater centralized command and control of the economy can’t just be de-mobilized and...

There’s something distasteful about companies that try to use the regulatory process for monetary gain. Rather than competing in a free market on the strength of their products and services, some companies turn to the government to try to get a leg up on their competitors. One recent example is the newly created Center for Methane Emissions Solutions (CMES), headed by a staffer of former Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM). As reported by Morning Consult, the organization consists of seven member companies in the “methane mitigation industry.” The article lists two, FLIR Systems Inc., which...
