Alliance responds to recent celebrity-infused anti-fracking campaign

(DENVER) – Western Energy Alliance released a video today calling on actors opposed to hydraulic fracturing to abstain from their extravagant lifestyles fueled by American oil and natural gas. In the video Celebrities: You Don’t Know What You’re Fracking Talking About the Alliance counters a recent online campaign featuring celebrities lobbying President Obama and the governors of Colorado and New York to ban hydraulic fracturing.

“The Hollywood celebrities appearing in the anti-fracking videos are woefully misinformed about hydraulic fracturing, and merely repeating talking points from extreme environmental groups that are trying to stop American oil and natural gas development,” said Kathleen Sgamma, vice president of government and public affairs at Western Energy Alliance.

“While advocating for a ban on fracking, these celebrities clearly don’t understand that their lavish lifestyles depend on oil and natural gas. From giving them the mobility to travel the world; heating and cooling their mansions; powering their electronics; and providing the feedstock for countless consumer products such as cosmetics, smart phones, clothing, and the chemicals used in plastic surgery, their way of life would vanish without oil and natural gas,” continued Sgamma. “Fracking has been safely providing abundant, affordable energy in America for over six decades under the toughest environmental standards in the world.”
