Approval of the Freeport LNG Terminal is in the public interest

(DENVER)- Western Energy Alliance applauded the Department of Energy's (DOE) approval of the Freeport Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal. DOE recognizes that LNG exports are in the public interest, and the decision today enables the United States to take advantage of its competitive advantage in natural gas.

"The Department of Energy has carefully studied LNG exports, and found that America benefits from exports in terms of increased economic growth and job creation," said Kathleen Sgamma, Vice President of Government & Public Affairs. "The more natural gas America exports, the more America benefits."

"America's abundant supply of natural gas is bringing manufacturing jobs back to America, while saving consumers $113 billion in annual energy costs. With ample spare capacity in the West and across the nation, American producers are able to expand production in response to an increase in demand that will result from exports while still keeping prices low for consumers and manufacturers."
