Western Energy Alliance Supports Ryan Zinke’s Nomination as Interior Secretary

January 17, 2017

DENVER - Western Energy Alliance today announced its support of Ryan Zinke as the next secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior. In a letter to the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy & Natural Resources, the trade group praised Zinke’s understanding of the delicate balance of preserving public lands and carrying out existing multiple-use mandates from Congress. The Alliance represents more than 300 companies focused on environmentally responsible oil and natural gas production in the West.

“As a Westerner representing a state with a large portion of federal public lands in Congress, Ryan Zinke understands the complexity of public lands issues and how the Interior Department impacts rural communities and economic growth,” said Kathleen Sgamma, president at the Alliance. “President-Elect Trump made it clear American energy development will be an important focus of his administration. Western oil and natural gas producers with reasonable access to federal public lands can help create hundreds of thousands of high-paying blue-collar jobs. Congressman Zinke is the right person to enact this vision while protecting the landscapes that all Westerners love and cherish. He understands responsible energy development in Montana and across the West is a vital economic engine that can be balanced with environmental protection. He can restore balance to federal lands management and navigate these complex issues. He’s a strong leader who should be quickly confirmed as our next Secretary of the Interior.”
