Western Energy Alliance Lauds Trump's Unleashing of American Energy
April 29. 2025
DENVER – Western Energy Alliance today commended President Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office and his Unleashing American Energy agenda that is reducing regulatory barriers. Since being inaugurated on January 20th, President Trump has taken decisive action to promote oil and natural gas development and laid the foundation for long-term energy prosperity.
“We’ve seen a dramatic shift from an administration that imposed restrictive policies, limited permitting, and threatened energy projects, to one that is actively supporting development,” said Kathleen Sgamma, president of the Alliance. “In 100 days, President Trump has set the tone to cut excessive regulations and get back to permitting oil and natural gas projects. On Day One, he signed multiple executive orders and sent a clear message that the government will no longer hinder our nation’s energy economy through overregulation. Every week since, we’ve seen targeted actions that tackle roadblocks put in place by the Biden administration.”
“We’ve witnessed swift action from his cabinet. Secretaries Burgum and Wright and Administrator Zeldin hit the ground running. We are especially pleased with Administrator Zeldin’s aggressive deregulatory actions, which include fixing the methane rules and reconsidering the endangerment finding. We’re glad that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) under the leadership of Secretary Burgum is returning to regular order on lease sales and permitting as required by law. We look forward to working with BLM to get environmental analysis under NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) done in a reasonable amount of time, as mandated by Congress,” added Sgamma.
The president’s actions demonstrate a disciplined strategy focused on three areas: restoring energy development on public lands, eliminating regulatory delays, and realigning federal priorities to support American energy. The following are key administration actions related to oil and natural gas:
- Unleashing American Energy Executive Order: Removes regulatory barriers to boost U.S. energy production, with a strong emphasis on expanding oil and natural gas development.
- Protecting American Energy from State Overreach Executive Order: Limits state interference in federal energy development, ensuring oil and natural gas projects on federal lands proceed without obstruction.
- Formation of the National Energy Dominance Council (NEDC): Established to modernize environmental reviews and permitting and to enhance interagency coordination to build critical energy infrastructure.
- Interior Secretary’s Actions to Streamline Development and Cut Costs: Removes regulatory barriers to accelerate energy production.
- EPA Administrator’s Deregulatory Actions: Reconsiders 31 major regulatory actions, including the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program and the 2009 Endangerment Finding.
- Energy Secretary’s Actions to Launch a “Golden Era” of American Energy: Prioritizes liquefied natural gas (LNG) export approvals, streamlines energy infrastructure permitting, and strengthens energy reliability.
- BLM Lease Sales: Generated $39 million in the first quarter, a stark contrast to the week one Biden leasing ban.
